Gal 6:1-2 KJV

INTRODUCTION

All of us know a Christian who fell into prominent sin. It is sad to say the least, but all of us could say, but by the grace of God there goes I. All of us need to help a brother or sister as we can when such a sad event occurs.

1. The . . Catching of a

Fellow Christian In Sin. v 1 a

1     Brethren, even if a man is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; {each one} looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted.

RYRIE   Vs. 6:1 caught = apprehended, taken by surprise, caught red-handed.

2. The . . Correcting of a

Fellow Christian In Sin. v 1 b

1     Brethren, even if a man is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; {each one} looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted.

For the meaning of spiritual, see note on 1 Cor. 2:15. restore. Used of setting broken bones and mending fishing nets.

1 Cor 2:15

15   But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man. (NAS)

RYRIE  Vs. 2:15 he who is spiritual. The mature Christian, who is led and taught by the Spirit, appraises all things; i.e., he can scrutinize, sift, and thereby understand all things; but unbelievers and even carnally-minded Christians cannot appraise (understand) him.

The stronger and deeper the roots, the less visible they are.

   Charles R. Swindoll (1934- )

   True spirituality manifests itself in:

   1. The desire to be holy rather than happy.

   2. The desire to see the honor of God advanced In his life.

   3. The desire to carry his cross.

   4. The desire to see everything from God's viewpoint.

   5. The desire to die right rather than live wrong.

   6. The desire to see others advance at his expense.

   7. The desire to make eternity-judgments instead of

       time-judgments.   A. W. Tozer (1897-1963)

The story is told of an old violinist who was very poor, but who brought much joy to others through his playing. Asked to explain why his music evoked a responsive chord in the hearts of his listeners, he lovingly fingered his instrument and commented, "Ah, a great deal of sunshine must have gone into this wood, and what has gone in comes out."

3. The . . Compassion To a

Fellow Christian In Sin. v 1 c - 2

“. . . restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; {each one} looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2    Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.

RYRIE  Vs. 6:2 burdens. I.e., the excess burdens that we need to share with one another, in contrast to the "load" (different Greek word) in verse 5, which means the normal amount each must carry for himself. the law of Christ. I.e., the commands of Christ, especially the new commandment to love one another (John 13:34). Living under grace is not license; it is a life of love and service (5:6, 13).

I saw such an example of a tough but tender man when Barbara Walters interviewed real-life hero "Stormin' Norman" Schwarzkopf, the four-star general who led the allied forces of Desert Storm to their Gulf War victory over Iraq.

As this tough military man talked about the war, I saw tears in his eyes. His interviewer noticed, too, and in her classic style, Barbara Walters asked, "Why, General, aren't you afraid to cry?"

General Schwarzkopf replied without hesitation, "No, Barbara. I'm afraid of a man who won't cry!"

This truly great man knows that being tough doesn't mean being insensitive or unfeeling or afraid to cry. No wonder soldiers gave their best when they served under his command. They knew the general cared about them; they could trust the man giving their orders. We men want leaders whose hearts can be touched by our situations and who touch our hearts as well.
