Principals of Christian Fellowship

1 John 1:1-8

KJV 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. KJV

NASU 1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life --

2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us --

3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. NASU

       A.   This Life Is . . Eternal. 1:1-2a

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have

heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

              1.    Eternal Fellowship From The . . Past. 1:1

That which was from the beginning,

which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

                     a.    Hard for us to comprehend.

                     b.    God is eternal in His being.

              2.    Eternal Fellowship From The . . Present. 1:1

              3.    Eternal Fellowship In The . . Future. 1:1

       B.   This Life Is . . Exposed In Christ. 1:2b

          “. . . which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

1 John 1:2 John defines the term by the adjective aioonios, used 71 times in the New Testament, (from Robertson's Word Pictures in the N. T.)

               1.    This is a onetime exposure with continuous observation.

                       a.     Jesus Christ is the same.        Heb 13:8

                      8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. KJV

                            Ps 90:2 & 4 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. . . . 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. KJV

                Rev 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: KJV

I have a pastor friend who received a call from a man trying to sell grave lots. So my friend asked him about the lots, and how much they cost. Then he asked the man how much did it cost to rent one. There was a long pause, and the man said sir you do understand I am talking about grave lots in a cemetery didn’t you?” My friend responded, “yes, and I might like to rent one, how much does it cost to rent one? I don’t plan to use one very long so it doesn’t make sense to buy one if they can be rented.”

Christian fellowship is eternal, and it begins here but continues in heaven.

Along that same line a man went with his wife to visit Israel and the Biblical Scenes of the Holy Land. He finally agreed to allow his mother-in-law to go with them. It so happened she died in Jerusalem, And He Wanted to Take Her Back to The United States for permanent burial. The people of the Israeli government Insisted that she be burried in Jerusalem.

The son-in-law told them the only burial he knew about was the burial of Jesus, and he arose in three days, and I don’t want to take any chances with my mother-in-law.

Application

Christian fellowship will be for ever. Think of your best day ever, or the very best days of your life, and then imagine heaven being much better then that for eternity.

Think of the best quality of live and it can be surpassed by Christian Fellowship

Light and darkness met, and darkness asked light to let him show light where he lived. So Light agreed to come down in the dark, dark cave darkness lived in, and as light entered the cave every where he went darkness fled, and he never had the experience of seeing the dark, dark place that darkness called home..

Application

Christian Fellowship is a fellowship in Light

The $20.00 bill eventually is used to do several humanitarian deeds that all would be counted as good deeds by the world. But it finally arives at the bank and is told you are a counterfeit bill. The bill argues stating all the humanitarian deeds it has done. The banker is impressed, but at the same time he is not impressed. He tells the bill you are counterfeit, and your under arrest.
