A Woman Dress
1 Tim 2:9-15
NKJV 9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls
or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness,
with good works. 11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but
to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was
not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15
Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith,
love, and holiness, with self-control. NKJV
NASU 9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing,
modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly
garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women
making a claim to godliness. 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction
with entire sub-submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach
or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam
who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived,
but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women will
be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith
and love and sanctity with self-restraint. NASU
HCSB 9 Also,
the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and
good sense; not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel,
10 but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship
God. 11 A woman should learn in silence with full submission. 12 I do not
allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is
to be silent. 13 For Adam was created first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was
not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed. 15 But she will
be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness,
with good sense. (HCSB)
Introduction
Have you heard more than you want
to hear about the half time show at the Super Bowl? It is very sad how
many people have been enamored by the event. It will be punished and the
entertainment industry may be awakened. Satan over played His hand. Let
me call you attention to this verse in Proverbs “As a ring of gold in
a swine's snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion. Proverbs 11:22

I personally think the blame for
the Jackson children’s behavior rest at the doorstep of their home. Yes,
Janet Jackson is 37, and Michael is 45, but they missed out on proper teaching
in their childhood. They do not have the Biblical background they need
to make wise decisions. But Janet and Michael need to get over it and grow
up, be a lady, be a man.
Application
This text speaks concerning what
was done by Jackson. This text is a teaching all ladies need.
The Bible teaches:
“in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel,.

Introduction
This does
not mean a lady cannot spend time at the beauty parlor. Phyllis Dillar
said she spent three hours at the
beauty parlor one time and that was just for the estimate. Men need some
place like a beauty parlor.
1. A Christian Lady’s emphasis should not be on outward
beauty.

1 Peter 3:2-4 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging
the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- 4 rather let it be
the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle
and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. NKJV

A woman can be a show stopper as
she comes walking through a crowd. What does her dress say to you? Is she
saying look at my figure, set your eyes on my womanly attributes, or does
she dress in such a way that you say she is modest and lady like.
Application
The weather lady, Cindy Preszler,
on St. Louis Channel 5, always dresses very ladylike. She gives an example
of how a woman should dress who wants to portray the quality of being feminine
. I would not be surprised to learn she is a Christian lady. I make my
judgment just from the way she dresses.
Will people see that quality in
you? Would anybody think Janet Jackson represents Christianity?
4.
The . . Maturity of a Woman Dress. v 11-14
11 Let a woman learn in
silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or
to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed
first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived,
fell into transgression.
A. The Maturity of Submission in . . Speech. v 11
“Let a woman learn in
silence with all submission. “
1 Learn = Discipled
a.Contrast the Taliban and Islam Countries.
2. The word silence means peaceful quietness. 1 Tim 2:2
“ for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness
and reverence. NKJV
2 Thess 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus
Christ, that with
quietness they work, and eat their own bread. NKJV
B. The Maturity of Submission in . . Service. v 12
“And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man,

Priscilla heard him, they took
him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. NKJV
2 Tim 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures,
which are able to make you wise
for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. NKJV
2 Submission to . . Submission.
“or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.”
a. This speaks to attitude.
b Women are not to express the final authority in doctrinal
matters.
c. Women should not be Senior pastors leading a church.
d. Example of S B C Churches = Growing and Prospering
Churches.
C. The Maturity of Submission in . . Scripture. v 13-14
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but
the woman being deceived,
fell into transgression.
1. Note the Reasons for Submission come from Scripture,
not Society.
a. Society tell the women to “go for it.”
b. Scripture is used as evidence that men and women have
definite roles.
1) Scriptural Reason One v 13
"For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
a) Adam Looked for a Mate.
b) God made a Helpmate
2) Scriptural Reason Two v 14
“And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell
into transgression.
a) Adam Allowed Eve to make Theological Decisions, and
he became the bigger sinner.
3) Scriptural Reason Three. Gen. 3:16
“to the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your
conception; In pain you shall
bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall
rule over you." NKJV

Men and women are good at different
things. A simple example would be: Women are better at details and make
better secretaries, and administrative assistants. Men are better at directions.
We have friends Jim and Mary Pruitt who were telling us about Mary not
being able to read a map. Jim made a big deal of Mary’s inability and
pleaded with her to just look at the map and tell him how far it was to
the next town. Mary, rather peeved at Jim’s putting her down got a flash
of inspiration and she measured with two fingers the distance between the
two towns and held up her fingers to Jim and said they are this far apart.
Jim laughed so hard he had to pull off on the shoulder. Men and women do
have differences.
Application
Many women have changed their world
through a quiet submission; waiting for the proper opportunity to speak
a godly word.
5.
The . . Ministry of a Woman Dress. v 15
15 Nevertheless she will
be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness,
with self-control. NKJV
A. Saved, does not relate to
salvation of the Soul.
1. The word "saved"can be translated as follows:
John 11:12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well
KJV
Acts 4:9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent
man, by what means he is made
whole; KJV
B.
Note the word “They” in the newer translations.
". . . if they continue. . . "
C.
If the Children do well, so will the mothers.

This week my wife was going through
some boxes, and rediscovered a letter her mother wrote her in 1957. Christa
had written her mother to tell her she had surrendered to the Lord’s
calling in her life. Christa thought her call may have been to foreign
missions, (and I have taken her to several different states). Her mother
wrote back and told Christa she cried when she got the letter, She wrote
to tell Christa (for the first time) when she was born she gave her to
the Lord for any service He had for her.
Now it
will help this story to know that Christa is the last of ten children.
Her mother further related that Christa’s letter prompted her to go into
her bedroom, kneel down and thank the Lord for calling Christa into His
service. She also told Christa she had once again given her to the Lord
for what ever service He chose.

Some ladies do not have children. At my home church, Tower
Grove Baptist in St. Louis, there is a lady named Hazel Welch. Biologically
she never had children, but if you go to her home and sit down at her dining
room table you will see about 20 pictures of young people she calls her
children. Her husband and her have given their lives fostering the Christian
growth of young people. When I see her she comes up to me and says hi son
and gives me a motherly kiss.
Christa’s mother and ladies like Hazel, have been saved, preserved
and made whole through the giving of their lives to children. Some gave
their life to biological children, some to spiritually adopted children.
But both to a ministry of being blessed and blessing children
