Contrasting the Effects of Sin and Salvation.
1 Cor. 6:9-11

(9) Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
{10} nor thieves, nor <the> covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
{11} And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

Intro:
There are many contrast in every day life. I will call your attention to just a few.

Black and White, Rich and Poor, Old and Young.

Sin and salvation also have contrast. I want to point out three from the text.

1. Sin makes you dirty, Salvation makes you Washed.

2. Sin makes you Unholy, Salvation makes you Sanctified.

3. Sin makes you Guilty, Salvation makes you Justified.

1. Sin makes you dirty, Salvation makes you Washed.

(9) Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, {10} nor thieves, nor <the> covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. {11} And such were some of you; but you were washed,. . . "

John 13:8-10 Peter said^ to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." {9} Simon Peter said^ to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head." {10} Jesus said^ to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all <of you>."

A pastor got some material in Israel for a dress to be made for his wife. It was pure wool from the holy land. His wife wore it for the first time to the churches sweetheart banquet. The youth were serving and a young girl dropped a piece of strawberry pie in the pastor' wives lap.

They tried to get the spot off and the next day they took it to the cleaners. The man who owned the cleaners said "I can clean it to satisfy you and me but your wife will always se the stain.

Psalms 51:1-3 {2} Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. {3} For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me.

APPLICATION:

What can wash away my sin? . . . . . Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

JESUS

"I've tried in vain a thousand ways
My fears to quell, my hopes to raise;
But all I need, the Bible says, is Jesus.
My soul is night, my heart is steel,

I cannot see, I cannot feel,
For life, for light, I must appeal to Jesus.
He died, He lives, He reigns, He pleads,
There's love in all His words and deeds,

All-All the guilty sinner needs is Jesus.
Though some will mock, though some will blame
In spite of fear, in spite of shame,
I'll go to Him, because His name is Jesus." Justified in the name "Jesus"

B. Sin makes you Guilty . . Salvation Justifies In the name of the . . Spirit. v 11 c

The necessity of the new birth is vividly portrayed in the life of George Whitefield. At 16 he became deeply convicted of his sin. He tried everything to become acceptable to God. He wrote, "I fasted for 36 hours twice a week. I prayed formal prayers several time a day and almost starved myself to death during Lent, but only felt more miserable.

Then by God's grace I met Charles Wesley, who put a book in my hand that showed me from the Scriptures that I must be 'born again' or be eternally lost." Finally, Whitefield understood that he had to trust in Jesus Christ. He believed and was both forgiven and changed. After he became a preacher, he spoke at least a thousand times on the subject, "You must be born again." Have you ever had a spiritual birthday?
