The Ceptive Family  (Re, De and Per)
and Money Matters
Prov 30:7-9

7 Two things I asked of Thee, Do not refuse me before I die:
8 Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion,
9 Lest I be full and deny Thee and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or lest I be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.
7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
7 O God, I beg two favors from you before I die:
8 First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs!
9 For if I grow rich, I may become content without God. And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God's holy name.

Most people rate Family relationship very high. The inter-action of family members helps build our character and personalities. For this message I want manufacture a make believe family today.

This family is the Ceptive Family. I have never heard of them before but in this family; I call attention to three members. Re-Ceptive, De-Ceptive, and Per-Ceptive.

I find all three of this member of the Ceptive family talked about in this text. Please follow in your Bible.

1.    The Ceptive Family Member "Re-Ceptive" In Money Matters. v 7

v  7 Two things I asked of Thee, Do not refuse me before I die:

Is there anyone here who would not like additional blessings?   Do any of you want to refuse receive additional from the Lord? I think all of us would be in a receptive mood.

A.    Re-Ceptive Knows his/her. .Foundation of Blessings. v 7 a

        1.    They come to the Lord. 2 Chron 1:7-13     NAS
7 In that night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask what I shall give you." . . . 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can rule this great people of Thine?" 11 And God said to Solomon, "Because you had this in mind, and did not ask for riches, wealth, or honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge, that you may rule My people, over whom I have made you king, 12 wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings who were before you has possessed, nor those who will come after you.

B.    Re-Ceptive Knows his/her . . Fountain of Blessing. v 7 b

        1.    The Fountain can flow or stop flowing.

                 a.    The Flowing of God's blessings. Mal 3:10
10 "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. NAS

                b.    The Stopping of God's Blessing. Isa 59:1

v  1 Behold, the Lord's hand is not so short That it cannot save;   Neither is His ear so dull That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear. NAS

Illustration Morse Code Revelation
Back when the telegraph was the fastest method of long-distance communication, a young man applied for a job as a Morse Code operator. Answering an ad in the newspaper, he went to the office address that was listed. When he arrived, he entered a large, busy office filled with noise and clatter, including the sound of the telegraph in the background.

A sign on the receptionist's counter instructed job applicants to fill out a form and wait until they were summoned to enter the inner office. The young man filled out his form and sat down with the seven other applicants in the waiting area.

After a few minutes, the young man stood up, crossed the room to the door of the inner office, and walked right in. Naturally the other applicants perked up, wondering what was going on. They muttered among themselves that they hadn't heard any summons yet. They assumed that the young man who went into the office made a mistake and would be disqualified.

Within a few minutes, however, the employer escorted the young man out of the office and said to the other applicants, "Gentlemen, thank you very much for coming, but the job has just been filled."

The other applicants began grumbling to each other, and one spoke up saying, "Wait a minute, I don't understand. He was the last to come in, and we never even got a chance to be interviewed. Yet he got the job. That's not fair!"

The employer said, "I'm sorry, but the last several minutes while you've been sitting here, the telegraph has been ticking out the following message in Morse Code: 'If you understand this message, then come right in. The job is yours.' None of you heard it or understood it. This young man did. The job is his."

We live in a world that is full of busyness and clatter, like that office. People are distracted and unable to hear the still, small voice of God as He speaks in creation, in the Scriptures, or in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Are you tuned in to God's voice? Do you hear Him when He speaks to you? Are you listening? "This is my Son, whom I love . .. Listen to Him!"

Question do you want to be Re-Ceptive In Money Matters?

2.    The Ceptive Family Member "De-Ceptive" In Money Matters. v 8

v  8 Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion,

Do you like to be deceptive? Do you like deceptive people? I think all of us would say no to both questions. Where reception is to be desired; deception is not a desirable trait.

A.    The . . Request related by De-Ception. v 8 a
        " Keep deception and lies far from me, . . . "

        1.    The Lord is in the Keeping Business. Ps 19:13
v  13  Also keep back Thy servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. NAS

"A clean glove often hides a dirty hand. "

This notice appeared in the window of a store in New York City: "Don't be fooled by imitators who claim to be going out of business. We have been going out of business longer than anyone on this block."

B.    The . . Resolution related by De-Ception. v 8 b
        ". . . Give me neither poverty nor riches; . . . "

C.    The . . Requirement related by De-Ception. v 8 c
        ". . . Feed me with the food that is my portion, . . . "

        1.    The Model Prayer. Matt 6:11
" 11 'Give us this day our daily bread." NAS

A few years ago a Hindu published an article in India arguing that Christianity be adopted as the official religion of India. He defended his proposal by pointing out that Christianity is the cheapest religion in the world. "I know what I am talking about," he wrote. "Here in our country we give all for our religion, and often keep yourselves poor in doing so.

But I have been to America and I know that there are millions of professing Christians spend more for: gasoline than they do for God, more for their own personal pleasure than they do for the advancement of the faith their profess."

It is an alarming indictment of our religious sincerity when other religions can point derisively at our faith and say, "That's the cheapest religion in the world, and who wants anything cheap?"

3. The Ceptive Family Member Per-Ceptive In Money Matters.   v 9

v  9 Lest I be full and deny Thee and say, "Who is the LORD?" Or lest I be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God

Do you have the ability of being perceptive. I remember trying to change the A-Frame in a 1966 Mustang. I could not get the frame to go in right. My daughter Teri was wanting to watch me do this so she would be more knowledgeable about an automobile.

When I was really getting frustrated Teri said dad what about if you tried turning the frame around to get it in there.

I just back pout and let her move in to try her foolish idea. To my surprise and embarrassment she got the part in it's proper place. We both had a good laugh and I then ask her who was helping whom. Teri was more perceptive than I in that situation.

Illustration PERSPECTIVE  Audrey Kelly wrote in the January 1987 "Reader's Digest":
While I was shopping in a pharmacy a couple of teen-agers came in. They were dressed in leather, chains and safety pins. The boy had blue-and-purple spiked hair, and the girl's hair was bright yellow. Suddenly the boy picked up a pair of sunglasses and tried them on. "What do you think of these?" he asked his girlfriend. "Take them off!" she howled. "They make you look ridiculous!"

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.

She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat." "Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No", she said. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in.

"We do not go into a House together," they replied. "Why is that?" she wanted to know. One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love."

Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home." The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?" Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!" "Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest." Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!!!"
