Illustration Lady wearing a cross yesterday.
Yesterday at the Ashley furniture store in Jackson a saleslady was wearing a cross and I told her “I always ask this question of a person who is wearing a cross. The questions is why are you wearing a cross.” She said, “ because I am a Christian.” I followed that with a question, “ do you know the Lord.” She responded positively, and told more of her love for the Lord.
She was proud of the cross.
Illustration Chief of police in Illinois.
Several years ago Burnell Lewis was in a revival meeting in Washington D. C. During the invitation time the back door was opened and a man came forward. He talked with the pastor for a long time and then sat down on the front row. After the service Burnell discovered this man was a police chief in a suburb of St. Louis MO. The story behind this experience was the man was on his way to St. Louis to catch a plane to take him to Washington
D. C. For a conference for Chief’s of police. On the way he saw a terrible accident. As he went to see if he could help they told him the young man was pinned under the car. This man volunteered to crawl under the car and try to talk to the young man. He did and asked him what was his name. All he responded with was grunts.
Later he crawled under to ask what his mother and dad names were still only a grunt. Later still he crawled under the car to ask who is your best friend. The boy clearly said, JESUS.
It so stunned the chief that he excused himself and went on toward the airport to catch his plane. His wife had taken him to different events at church and urged him to make a decision for Christ and while on the plan he did accept the Lord as his lord. He promised the Lord the first time he got an opportunity to make his decision public he would.
When he got to the motel he noticed a sign on a Baptist Church right next to the motel that said Revival Nightly. The Lord seem to tell him there is an opportunity to make your decision public. He did and he and the boy who said.”Jesus was his best friend” motivated Him
