Resurrected†††† Luke 24:1-12 HCSB†††† March 27, 2016
The factual realization that Christianityís leader, Jesus, has Resurrected gives us a unique reality that other religions do not enjoy.† We can visit an empty tomb and say it belongs to our Lord and Savior.†† Our Savior is alive and ever lives to make intercession for us.†† Some of our greatest songs proclaim the fact of the resurrected Lord.† Because of that we are waiting His return to take us to be with Him. Other world religions can experience a revival when they claim some bones of their leaderís body have been found.† That would not cause a revival for Christianity but despair and rejection.† We serve a living Lord because He has been Resurrected.†† Amen?† Amen!† Amen!
1.††† Resurrected As They Discovered The . . Revelation In An Empty Tomb.††† 24:1-2
A.†† Revealed . . As The Stone was rolled Away from the Tomb.†† 24:1-3
1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices
they had prepared.
2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
B.††† Revealed . . More Completely as they went into the empty Tomb.†† 24:3
3 They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
As we relate to the resurrection of Jesus it is hard to understand how the early Christians did not understand
more of what Jesus told them about it.† But it doesnít take a lot of investigation to realize many teaching of Jesus have not been so easily understood by us.†† It seems they would have wondered how such a large stone was rolled away but it also kept them from having to ask someone to roll it away for them. †Then as they went in and did not find Jesus it confused them and they got a shock as the angles appeared to them.
2.††† Resurrected And An . . Extended Disclosure.†† 24:4-8
A.†† An Extended Disclosure As They . . Received additional Information.†† 24:4-5
4 While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in dazzling clothes.
5 So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground. "Why are you looking for the living among
the dead?" asked the men.
B.††† An Extended Disclosure As They . . Remembered the Words of Jesus.†† 24:6-8
6 "He is not here, but He has been resurrected! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still
7 saying, 'The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the
8 And they remembered His words.
The angels seemed to understood how they could be such a surprising presence to the ladies but their question doesnít register that the ladies still are not understanding the resurrection.† Yes they were seeking the living among the dead; but they did not yet know or realize that truth.† When the angels shared this truth calling attention so forcefully to the teachings of Jesus they understood.†† Have you ever failed to understand an obvious truth and then someone taught it with a new illustration and it became so obvious to you, you were embarrassed to admit you had not understood it earlier?
3.††† Resurrected And the Ladies . . Shared to the Eleven and Others.†† 24:9-12
A.†† Shared to Eleven Disciples and Others but they were . . Astonished.†† 24:9-11
9 Returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the rest.
10 Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them were telling the
apostles these things.
11 But these words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women.
B.††† Shared to Eleven Disciples but Peter went to look and was . . Amazed.†† 24:12
12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. When he stooped to look in, he saw only the linen cloths.
So he went home, amazed at what had happened.††† HCSB
The ladies who went to the tomb left to come and eagerly tell the disciples.† They felt because they understood it was their responsibility to share with other believers.† That fact that they were women made this message from them more difficult to accept.† Simon Peter as somewhat of a leader thought he needed to check this out and clarify what the ladies were sharing.† As he got to the tomb and went in and saw the linen cloths and how they were arranged he knew what the ladies shared was factual.† He went home amazed.†† The truth that Jesus was Resurrected became a reality to him and he wanted to share the truth in agreement with what the ladies had shared.† Amen?† Amen!
