Abigail Protected†††† 1 Sam. 25:14-17,† 32-38††††† Aug. 14, 2016
All of us have taken an action for which we were later sorry.† Nabal probably regretted his actions toward the messengers of David.† Since the Lord shortened his life he never got an opportunity to think more about it and perhaps make an apology.† His wife Abigail certainly made the efforts to keep David from seeking revenge for his men and the way Nabal had treated them and a battle from occurring.† The end result was that David, after hearing about Nabalís death, asked Abigail to come be one of his wives.† Although we do not agree with that practice it appears as a helpful practice in this case as she got Protected.
1.††† Abigail Received . . Information about Nabalís Treatment of Davidís Solders.††† 1 Sam. 25:14-17
A.†† The . . Improper Yelling by Nabal.††† 25:14
14 One of Nabal's young men informed Abigail, Nabal's wife: "Look, David sent messengers from the
wilderness to greet our master, but he yelled at them. ††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††
B.††† The . . Involvement of Davidís Solders and their Protection for Nabalís Men.††† 25:15-17
15 The men treated us well. When we were in the field, we weren't harassed and nothing of ours was
missing the whole time we were living among them.
16 They were a wall around us, both day and night, the entire time we were herding the sheep.
17 Now consider carefully what you must do, because there is certain to be trouble for our master and his
entire family. He is such a worthless fool nobody can talk to him!"
David sent messengers to greet Nabal but he seems to not be a good thinker or not one to investigate the truth. A messenger took the mission to try and appease the intent of David and his men.† There was wisdom in the young servant of Nabal who came and warned Abigail, Nabalís wife,.† He also told her about the kind treatment her shepherds received from the army of David as they traveled along and rested near where Nabalís shepherds were herding their sheep.† But Nabal did not give a proper greeting to Davidís messengers and consequently David got an army ready to do battle.† As Nabalís wife was told about the contrasted treatment Davidís men gave to these shepherds in several areas, it was hoped, she might be able to clarify this to him.
2.††† Abigail Brings . . Information to David.†† 1 Sam. 25:32-35
A.†† David . . Praises the Action of Abigail.† 25:32-33
32 Then David said to Abigail, "Praise to the Lord God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today!
33 Blessed is your discernment, and blessed are you. Today you kept me from participating in bloodshed
and avenging myself by my own hand.
B†††† David Tells Abigail she . . Prevented a Bloodshed.†† 25:34-35
34 Otherwise, as surely as the Lord God of Israel lives, who prevented me from harming you, if you had
not come quickly to meet me, Nabal wouldn't have had any men left by morning light."
35 Then David accepted what she had brought him and said, "Go home in peace. See, I have heard what
you said and have granted your request."
Abigail, the wife of Nabal, took action to try to stop any blood shed and David recognized her wisdom, humility, and praised her actions.† He expressly thanked her for following the leading of the Lord as her actions stopped David from avenging himself by his own hand.† David acted wisely in dealing with Abigail and accepting her gifts and sending her home in peace.† Her actions kept her husband and many soldiers from being killed., If David had committed these acts they would have been some of the blackest spots in his life.†† David recognized her work as being prompted by the Lord so, he blessed her in three ways as she followed the Lord, he was very grateful.
3.††† Abigail Goes to Tell Nabal of His . . Bad Judgement and He Dies.††† 1 Sam. 25:36-38
A.†† Abigail Found Him Drunk so That . . Blocked her from talking until Morning.† 25:36
36 Then Abigail went to Nabal, and there he was in his house, feasting like a king. Nabal was in a good
mood and very drunk, so she didn't say anything to him until morning light.
B.††† Abigail Told Nabal and he had a heart Attack . . Barring Her From Telling Him More.† 25:37-38
37 In the morning when Nabal sobered up, his wife told him about these events. Then he had a seizure
and became paralyzed.
38 About 10 days later, the Lord struck Nabal dead.††† HCSB
When Abigail found Nabal to tell him; he was partying and very drunk so she did not tell him her story until the next day.† In the morning when Nabal had sobered up and could understand as she told him about the affect of his actions.† When he heard this and understood, the affect caused him to have a seizure and became paralyzed with fear that caused his death ten days later.†† Once again, because she followed the leading of the Lord Abigail was Protected.† Amen?† Amen!† ††(To check for a more detailed outline.† Go to:† http://www.preachhim.org/SundaySchoolIndex.html)†††††††††††††††††††††††††††
