God's Unique Son Matt 1:18-2:3, 2:7-11
Sept. 02, 2007
Introduction
Jesus is God's
Unique Son. He is unique in birth, life, death, resurrection, and
no one will return to this
earth like God's Unique Son.
1. The . . Pregnancy For
God's Unique Son. 1:18-21
<>
A. The . . Virginity Of The Pregnancy For
God's Unique Son.
18 The birth of Jesus Christ
came about this way: After His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph,
it
>was discovered before
they came together that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
B. The . . Valiant Action Of The
Pregnancy For God's Unique Son.
19 To her husband Joseph,
being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly,
decided to
divorce
her secretly. 20 But after he had considered these things, an angel of
the Lord suddenly appeared to
him
in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary
as your wife, because what has
been
conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a
son, and you are to name Him Jesus,
because
He will save His people from their sin.
God's Son Jesus Christ came to this earth in a unique manner. Only God
would have though of using a
virgin birth. Men would have by-passed this and would have wound up
with a baby with sinful nature, and
thereby ruined their plan. God knew it would take a virgin birth to
bring a son without a sin nature. Then God
needed a valiant man like Joseph to whom he could explain the plan, and
have him believe it and participate in
it. Joseph knew the world needed a Messiah, and he valiantly acted to
the leading of the Lord.
2.
The . . Prophecy Of
God's Unique Son. 1:22-25
<>
A. The Prophecy . . Fulfilled.
1:22-23
22 Now all this took
place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23
See, the
virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name
Him Immanuel, which is
translated "God is with us."
B. The>
Prophecy
. . Followed. 1:24-25
24 When Joseph
got up from sleeping, he did as the Lord's angel had commanded him. He
married her 25 but did
not know her intimately until she gave birth to a son. And he named Him
Jesus.
God does not make predictions, or give prophecies that He does not plan
to fulfill. Multitudes of his
prophecies are ready for our observation, and we see He did just what
He said He was going to do. So when we
look at some that have not been fulfilled we simple need to draw
additional faith from the fulfilled prophecies.
God
promised His Son would come to this earth, and He did. God prophecy for
the return of His Son still
remains to be fulfilled, but we can trust Him to fulfill His promises
exactly as prophesied. Joseph followed the
Lord's direction. We need to be obedient just like Joseph as the Lord
directs us.
3. The .
. Pursuit
Of God's Unique Son 2:1-3,
7-8
A. Pursuing God's Son Through The
. . Stars. 2:1-3
1 After Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east
arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem, 2 saying, "Where is He who has been
born King of the Jews? For
we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." 3 When King
Herod heard this, he was
deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
B. Pursuing God's Son Through The . .
Sending. 2:7-8
7 Then Herod secretly summoned the
wise men and asked them the exact time the star appeared. 8 He sent
them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the child.
When you find Him, report back to me
so that I too can go and worship Him."
< style="font-weight: bold;">
God used a pagan king to help the wise men find the babe as they
innocently came asking about the star that gave them direction. Why
would these men follow a star? It must have been a very unusual star to
excite these
men, and cause them to travel the distance they traveled. The King
asked the learned men in his entourage and
they checked the scriptures. Why didn't the wise men know these
scriptures if they knew this star belonged to a
king who was born in this area. I can ask more questions than I have
answers. The star guided, and the King
sent them to Bethlehem. These men diligently pursued God's Unique
Son.>
4.
The . . Presentations
For God's Unique Son
2:9-11
<>
A. The Presentation Of . . Worship For God's
Unique Son. 2:9-11a
9 After hearing the king, they
went on their way. And there it was -- the star they had seen in the
east! >It
led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was.
10 When they saw the star, they were
overjoyed beyond measure. 11 Entering the house, they saw the child
with Mary His mother, and falling
to their knees, they worshiped Him. . . ."
B. The
Presentation Of . . Worthy Gifts For God's Unique Son. 2:11b
".
. .Then
they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts: gold,
frankincense, and myrrh.
Today if you are going to see a baby you bring
gifts, but suppose it is a kingly baby? What kind of gifts
should you bring? If you add to this event that the baby is the
Messiah; proper gifts must include worship. How
do you worship a baby? These wise men fell to their knees in adoration.
Did you note that the King stated he
wanted to worship this child? He may have used the same word, but his
intend did not interest the Lord. He
really did not want to worship, God's
Unique Son? Amen? Amen!
