God Creates Gen. 1:1-5, 26-31; 2:1-3 HCSB Sept. 06, 2015
I am glad the Bible tells in a matter of fact way that God created.
1. God Creates . . Out of Nothing. 1:1-2
A. Out of Nothing Because It is God's . . Desire. 1:1
1 In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth.
B. Out of Nothing Because It is God's . . Design. 1:1
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
One morning last week I asked a man if he had made a commitment of his life to Christ. He quickly responded, no! and ask me, "Where did God come from". To that I replied. He has always been, He is eternal and that is the only answer that makes sense. Creation is His desire and design. The more you study about creation the more correct my answers prove to be. In recent years many who do not as yet come into Christianianity have agreed with some very intelligent scholars who believe in, "intelligent design" for our earth. They say the intricacies of the creation are to advanced for there not to be an intelligent designer.
2. God Creates . . By His Word. 1:3-5
A. God's Word Is . . Powerful. 1:3-4
3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
4 God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
B. God's Word Is . . Purposeful. 1:5
5 God called the light "day," and He called the darkness "night." Evening came, and then morning:
the first day.
God is the only one capable and powerful enough to speak and cause our world to exist. God spoke for the light to be created and it was created. I would much rather begin with God that nothing. All other expression about creation go back to the beginning to nothing and have to explain how creation started. One time when I was in seminary I worked in an engineering office and the men in the outer office had been talking about creation and one man said it all began in a beer can. When I came walking through they asked me what I thought of this theory and laughed. I just asked, "Who created the beer can?" It ended the humor because no one had an answer that even began to make sense. Creation has to have a creator and an all powerful eternal
God makes the most sense.
3. God Creates . . In His Image. 1:26-31
A. God's Image . . Is Purposeful. 1:26-28
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of
the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth."
27 So God created man in His own image He created him in the image of God He created them
male and female.
28 God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the
fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth."
B. God's Image . . Is Privileged. 1:29-31
29 God also said, "Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth, and
every tree whose fruit contains seed. This food will be for you,
30 for all the wildlife of the earth, for every bird of the sky, and for every creature that crawls on the
earth--everything having the breath of life in it. I have given every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. Evening came, and then morning: the sixth day.
Some want to make two creation stories out of Gen. One and Two. I prefer to say one account is a summary and the other is more specific and detailed. God has what it takes to create man and woman.
They didn't, then nor now, look like monkeys. I personally believe Eve was the most beautiful woman ever.
God doesn't make a woman in the beginning that is not beautiful. Sin has taken some of her beauty and man's handsomeness. Man and woman were to be fruitful and multiply and to rule over creation. God did all of this in six days and it was very good.
4. God Creates . . For His Glory. 2:1-3
A. God's Glory In . . Resting. 2:1-2
1 So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed.
2 By the seventh day, God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from
all His work that He had done.
B. God's Glory In . . Requiring Rest and Holiness. 2:3
3 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.
When some one is blessed with the ability to design and make products we many time say you really out did yourself. But they did not out do them selves they simple use the skill God gave to them. God did not out do Himself He simple created with in His power and capabilities. God is superior in every thing He does, so why is creation so intricate and wonderful because that is how God Creates. Amen? Amen!
