Introduction
The text of the lesson begins with one of the clearest statements about the blessings of being in Christ for In Christ, Godly condemnation does not exist. Look at the last few verses of chapter eight; we also see separation from God does not exist. What a privilege to be Led By The Spirit!

1.    The Spirit's Leadership Produces. . Liberty. v 1-4
1 Therefore, no condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus,
2 because the Spirit's law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the
law of sin and of death. 3 What the law could not do since it was limited
by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own
Son in flesh like ours under sin's domain, and as a sin offering, 4 in order
that the law's requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk
according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

    A.    The. . Promise of This Liberty. v 1 a
            1    Therefore, no condemnation now exists . . ."

    B.    The. . Position of This Liberty. v 1 b
            " . . . for those in Christ Jesus, . . ."

    C.    The. . Privilege of This Liberty. v 2-3
2 because the Spirit's law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the
law    of sin and of death. 3 What the law could not do since it was limited
by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own
Son in flesh like ours under sin's domain, and as a sin offering,

    D.    The . . Performance of this Liberty. v 4
4 in order that the law's requirement would be accomplished in us who do
not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Do you remember the Bible says " . . . where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty? (2 Cor. 3:17)  In this Sprit-led liberty we have the promise, position, privilege, and performance of liberty. The promise is "no condemnation." This means after the evidence is weighed a person is no longer judged as guilty. In this Scripture all Christians receive a tremendous promise on which to further base their confidence. We may enjoy this position "In Christ." This position may not be obtained by work or purchase. It is the gift of God "In Christ." What additional privileges does this give us? First; it gives us the Spirit's freedom. Secondly; it gives us freedom from the Law. God did this, of course, "In Christ." Note the words "in flesh like ours" and realize what a blessing it is that Christ knows every limitation of the flesh. Of course even though He came in our likeness He sinned not, and that is a significant difference. The walk of our performance is according to the Spirit

2.     The Spirit's Leadership Produces. . Life. v 5-8
5 For those whose lives are according to the flesh think about the things of
the flesh, but those whose lives are according to the Spirit, about the things
of the Spirit. 6 For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the
Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God
because it does not submit itself to God's law, for it is unable to do so.
8 Those whose lives are in the flesh are unable to please God.

    A.    The. . Motivation Produced by the Spirit Led Life. v 5
5 For those whose lives are according to the flesh think about the things
of the flesh, but those whose lives are according to the Spirit, about the
        things of the Spirit.

        1.    The Flesh or The SPIRIT.

    B.    The. . Mind Set Produced by the Spirit Led Life. v 6
6 For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is
            life and peace.

        1. The. . Mortality of our Mind-set. v 6
            a. The "FLESH" mind set is death.
            b. The "SPIRIT" mind set is life.
            c. We look at death differently.
                1) The fear is different.
                2) The peace and joy is greater, because of hope.

    C.    The. . Meekness Produced by the Spirit Led Life. v 7-8
7 For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit
itself to God's law, for it is unable to do so. 8 Those whose lives are in the
flesh are unable to please God.

        1. We are not hostile toward God. v 7
        2. We seek to please God. v 8

The Spirit's leadership produces A Spirit-led motivation, mind-set, and meekness. Our motivation is Spirit led and not according to the flesh. The Spirit changes our mind-set. This affects our view of mortality as we view death differently, and know we will live with God eternally. This produces an attitude of meekness that submits to the Lord.

3.    The Spirit's Leadership Produces. . License. v 9-10
9 You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God
lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not
belong to Him. 10 Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin,
but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

    A.    The License of. . Relationship. v 9
9 You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, since the Spirit of
God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does
        not belong to Him.
            1. Related to Christ vs no relationship to Christ.

    B.    The License of. . Righteousness. v 10
10 Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit
        is life because of righteousness.
            1. Reality of Christ's . . Presence. v 10 a
Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin . . ."

            2. Reality of Christ's . . Performance. v 10
" . . . but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. "

Have you ever thought about all the licenses we have? Licenses give a recognized freedom. In Christ we have a license to recognize a freedom of relationship that causes righteousness in our daily life. When we (at conversion) received the Holy Spirit, God gave us the evidence of our salvation. We say we know we are saved because we have the presence of the Holy Spirit residing in us. We do many acts of righteousness because of His work in us. In a sense we are licensed to do righteousness.

4.    The Spirit's Leadership Produces. . Liability. v 11-14

    A. The Liability from the. . Resurrection. v 11
11 And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you,
then He who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies
to life through His Spirit who lives in you.

    B. The Liability of. . Resurrection. v 12-13
12 So then, brothers, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to
the flesh, 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But
if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

    C.    The Liability of. . Relationship. v 14
14 All those led by God's Spirit are God's sons.

God and His Children are liable. God is liable from the resurrection to give us a new life and an ultimate resurrection. He will do this just like His Spirit did it for Christ.  But there is also a liability of the resurrection to God's Children as we are liable to live like Christ. This is the liability of relationship; I am to live as
one of His Children because I am Led By The Spirit. Amen? Amen!
