The Word Of
Faith
Ro 10:8-13
NKJV
8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in
your heart"
(that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess
with your mouth the
Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the
dead, you will be
saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with
the mouth
confession is made unto salvation. NKJV

Thursday I called my friend Burnell Lewis to have him confirm a story
he told me. He
then told me about meeting Red Skelton, and when Red found out he was
an Evangelist
from Missouri asked him if he knew of the town of Caruthesrville.
Burnell related he
had preached their many times. Red told him he attended a revival
meeting their one
tome and went forward for salvation
I called him to confirmed my memory of an
encounter he had with the movie star Van
Johnson. He got to talk to him on one occasion about salvation. Van

Illustration Dining at the White House
Someone once wrote and asked Emily Post, the etiquette expert of
another generation,
"What is the correct procedure when one is invited to the White House
but has a previous
engagement?" Replied Post, "An invitation to dine at the White House is
a command,
and it automatically cancels any other engagement." MBI's Today In The Word,
November, 1989, p. 7.

On one occasion FBC Mtn. View had a Minister of Music and Youth named
David Duncan. He was a
gifted man, with a fine work ethic. He did have a personal problem of
making a decision.
On one occasion he
debated about buying a musical instrument and while this was going on
his daughter
was trying to learn how to ride a bike, and just would not trust
herself and the training wheels. David was
frustrated because she would not just make the decision to trust. He
said to his wife, "why won't she trust
herself enough to learn to ride." His wife said, maybe she is like her
dad in making decisions." David look
startled, turned in an about face and went in to order the musical
instrument he had been debating.

told of having a funeral when the drunken father came in and threw
himself on top of the casket of his son

Illustration Evangelism
It was in 1873, in Dublin that D. L. Moody heard British evangelist
Henry Varley utter those life changing
words: "The world has yet to see what God can do withand for and
through and in a man who is fully and
wholly consecrated to Him." It was after an all-night prayer meeting in
Dublin, at the home of Henry
Bewley. Varley did not even remember making the statement when Moody
reminded him of it a year later.
"As I crossed the wide Atlantic," Moody said, "the boards of the
deck ... were engraved with them, and
when I reached Chicago, the very paving stones seemed marked with
them." The result: Moody decided he
was involved in too many ministries to be effective and therefore began
to concentrate on evangelism. The

Illustration Christ, Lordship Of: She
Honored The Lord Of All
When Queen Victoria had just ascended her throne she went, as is the
custom of Royalty, to hear "The Messiah"
rendered. She had been instructed as to her conduct by those who knew,
and was told that she must not rise when the
others stood at the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus. When that
magnificent chorus was being sung and the singers
were shouting "Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! for the Lord God
omnipotent reigneth," she sat with great
difficulty. It seemed as if she would rise in spite of the custom of
kings and queens, but finally when they came to
that part of the chorus where with a shout they proclaim Him King of
kings suddenly the young queen rose and stood
with bowed head, as if she would take her own crown from off her head
and cast it at His feet. Let us make Him
King and every day be loyal to Him. . -- J. Wilbur Chapman
