Remembering the Sanctity of Marriage
Matt 19:4-6

4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." NKJV

Introduction
Two old stories that get more humorously true after 40 years of marriage:

An older couple were sitting on the porch swing and the wife of 50 years said "I am proud of you." The husband said "eh what did you say," so she repeated "I'm proud of ya." The husband said "Well I am tired of you too."

Similar swing and porch swing situation and the wife of 50 years says "you remember when we used to swing and you would kiss me and nibble on my ear?" The husband rather quickly got up and started in the house. The wife said "well I didn't mean to make you mad, and the husband said "I am not mad, I'm going inside to get my teeth."

Bonus Humor

Barbara Walters had done a story on gender roles in Kuwait several years before the Gulf War, and she noted then that women customarily walked about 10 feet behind their husbands. She returned to Kuwait recently and observed that the men now walked several yards behind their wives.

Ms. Walters approached one of the women for an explanation. "This is marvelous," she said. "What enabled women here to achieve this reversal of roles?"

The Kuwaiti woman replied, "danger from the Land mines."

Man listing his requirements. An Angel said "that will cost you an arm and a leg. He thought and asked what can I get for a rib?

Most of we men got much more than the cost of a rib.

B.     History In the . . Taking of Male and Female for Marriage.
5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his
wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."

        1.    Take by . . Accepting the Mate God Gives You. 23 a
                ". . . And the man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh;

            Adam just accepted Eve.
We are all imperfect so all of us need to change but some basic personality traits we are
            not going to change.

        2.    Take by . . Appreciating the Mate God Gives You. 23 b
". . . she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of Man."

Husbands and wives need to appreciate their mates.
They are a gift from God.

Shortly after God created Eve Adam asked "Why did you make woman so beautiful?" She is just take your breath away beautiful. God said "Yes I really did an exceptional work on Eve." Adam repeated "but Lord why did you make her so beautiful?" God said "so you would love and appreciate her."

A few weeks later Adam said to God "I am still amazed at Eve's beauty, " but, Lord why did you make her so gullible." God said "so she would love and appreciate you."

Application

Wives and Husbands refine one another.

2.    Remembering the Sanctity of Marriage in the . . The Happiness of Marriage.

A.    Happiness from A . . Mate.
Gen 2:20-25 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."

B.    Happiness from A . . Forever Date.
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. NKJV

Mark 10:6-8 6 But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female.' 7 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 'and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. NKJV

Eph 5:32-33 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. NKJV

3.    Remembering the Sanctity of Marriage in the . . The Health of Marriage.

A.    Healthy because . . Designed It So.
Gen 2:18 And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." NKJV

B.    Healthy because . . Decreed it so.
Heb 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. NKJV

Three weeks after her wedding day, Joanna called her minister. "Reverend," she wailed, "John and I had a DREADFUL fight!"

"Calm down, my child," said the minister, "it's not half as bad as you think it is. Every marriage has to have its first fight!"

"I know, I know!" said Joanna, "but what am I going to do with the BODY?"
