Introduction (from Susan Wright, DeBary Fla.)
A father wrote:  while sitting next to my first grade daughter during our morning worship service one Sunday, I noticed her look down at my open Bible. In a low whisper, she asked, "Did God really write that?"    "Yes," I quietly whispered back. Looking down at my Bible again, she said in amazement, "Wow! He really has neat handwriting!" "Heart to Heart," Today's Christian Woman.]

How do you view the Bible?   I have taken several verses that use the phrase the word is and have combined them into these three points.

1.    The Word of God is . . Settled.

2.    The Word of God is . . Sure.

3.    The Word of God is . . Saving Word.

1.    The Word of God is A . . Settled Word.

A.    Settled as a Spoken Word.
2 Sam 23:2 (NAS) "The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.

Luke 1:70 (NAS) As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old--

B.    Settled as a Written Word.
Ps 119:89 Forever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in heaven.  (NAS))

Matt 5:18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished. (NAS)

It seems that these four preachers had a series of theological arguments, and three were always in agreement against the fourth 3 to 1. One said "majority rules." The losing minister decided to appeal to a higher authority.

"Oh, God!" he cried. "I know in my heart that I am right and they are wrong! Please give me a sign to prove it to them!" It was a beautiful, sunny day. As soon as the preacher finished his prayer, a storm cloud moved across the sky above the four. It rumbled once and dissolved. "A sign from God! See, I'm right, I knew it!" But the other three disagreed, pointing out that storm clouds form on hot days.

So the preacher prayed again: "Oh, God, I need a bigger sign to show that I am right and they are wrong. So please, God, a bigger sign!" This time four storm clouds appeared, rushed toward each other to form one big cloud, and a bolt of lightning slammed into a tree on a nearby hill. "I told you I was right!" cried the preacher, but his friends insisted that nothing had happened that could not be explained by natural causes.

The preacher was getting ready to ask for a *very big* sign, but just as he said, "Oh God...," the sky turned pitch black, the earth shook, and a deep, booming voice said, "HEEEEEEEE'S RIIIIIIIGHT!"

The preacher put his hands on his hips, turned to the other three, and said, "Well?"    "So," shrugged one of the other preachers, "now it's 3 to 2."    It's a serious problem. The problem of putting God's words on an equal level with man's words. But spiritual truth is not determined by taking a vote. In fact, even if 1,000 people agree with us, it makes no difference unless we agree with God.

A "gender-accurate" translation of the Bible is due to be published in 2003 or 2004, Steve Johnson, communications director of the International Bible Society told Religion Today. The IBS also publishes the New International Version of the Bible, a widely distributed translation.

...Changes in gender language will be included in the new translation, which has not yet been named. For example, where the NIV says in 1 Corinthians 11:28, "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup," a possible new translation is, "A believer ought to examine him or herself,"

...No changes will be made in describing God or Jesus in male terminology, the IBS said.    The IBS canceled plans two years ago to publish a "gender-accurate" edition of the NIV after critics charged the society was turning the NIV into a "feminist" or "unisex" Bible. An agreement not to substantially change the NIV was reached in 1997. It involved the IBS, which holds the copyright on the NIV; Zondervan Publishing House, the publisher of the NIV; and critics such as James Dobson of Focus on the Family.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is moving closer to allowing homosexuals to be ministers. The denomination's Church Orders and Ministry Committee voted 24-14 this week to recommend striking a clause in the PCUSA Book of Order that forbids ordination of gays and lesbians.

The recommendation, voted on after eight hours of heated debate, will go before a 560-member assembly this week, as the denomination holds its 211th General Assembly at the Fort Worth (Texas) Convention Center. The proposal then would be voted on by Presbyterian ministers and elders nationwide.

...The clause forbids the ordination of "self-affirming, practicing homosexuals." Proponents of allowing homosexual ministers say they are called to the ministry and that the church unjustly discriminates against them. Opponents of allowing homosexual clergy say the lifestyle goes against biblical principles. "

Addendum to Illustration 3#  Also see footnote
...The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted last week to stick to its policy against ordaining openly gay ministers. The 2.6 million-member denomination’s General Assembly voted 319-198 to put off any action for two years while church members discuss the idea.

Just as God said, "I AM", so the "BIBLE IS". The existence is eternal. Even though someone originally *wrote* the book, His Word has always been. You can destroy the book, but the Words linger through Truth Eternal. The book may of had a beginning, but the Words are from Eternity. Of course, we know, that those Words were fulfilled in Jesus Christ; Him being, *The Word*.

God's Word is not open for us to vote on, It is a settled word.

It Is settled on It's Truthfulness,     Rom 3:4
May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man {be found} a liar, as it is written, "That Thou mightest be justified in Thy words, and mightest prevail when Thou art judged." (NAS)

It is settled In It's Trustworthiness.

It Is settled On Adultery.

It Is settled On Drunkenness.

It Is settled On Lying.

It Is settled On Abortion.

It Is settled On Husband and Wife Relationships

It Is settled On Sin..

It Is settled On Homo-Sexuality,

It Is settled On gender matters.

2.    The Word of God is A . . Sure Word.

Ps 19:7 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. (NAS))

2 Pet 1:19 And {so} we have the prophetic word {made} more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. (NAS)

Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. (NAS)

Ps 119:140 Thy word is very pure, therefore Thy servant loves it. (NAS)

Ps 119:160 The sum of Thy word is truth, and every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting.( NAS)

2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;   (NAS)

Rocket scientist Hans Gruene recalls an incident during the 1950s when he was working on the Redstone Rocket. During an investigation following the failure of a Redstone mission, an engineer discovered a mistake made unknowingly while he was working on the rocket, and immediately reported his findings to Werner von Braun, the head of the project. Instead of the expected reprimand, von Braun rewarded him -- because, he said, it was vital to know just what had gone wrong.

The degree of accuracy maintained in the space program is illustrated by a statement von Braun made several years ago: "The Saturn 5 has 5,600,000 parts. Even if we had a 99.9 percent reliability, there would still be 5,600 defective parts. Yet the Apollo 4 mission flew a 'text-book' flight with only two anomalies occurring, demonstrating a reliability of 99.9999 percent. If an average automobile with 13,000 parts were to have the same reliability, it would have its first defective part in about 100 years."

A man told me one time the Bible could not be perfect because God could not use a human to bring about anything perfect. I asked him if he thought Jesus Christ was a perfect human being he said "oh yes without question." I then asked :how did Jesus get to this earth" and he answered through the virgin Mary." I then reminded him God did something perfect through a human being.

If man can make 5,600,00 parts with almost no errors why can't there be a Bible without error.

We have a sure word from God.

3.    The Word of God is A . . Saving Word.

A.    Inspired for Salvation
2 Tim 3:15-17 (NAS) 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.   16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

B. Implanted for Salvation
James 1:21    Therefore putting aside all filthiness and {all} that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. (NAS)

Illustration From a letter from Nils and Sandy Becker(1995)
"In the 1920s Stalin ordered a purge of all Bibles and believers. In Stavropol, this order was carried out completely. Thousands of Bibles were taken and believers were sent to the gulags, where so many died for being enemies of the state.

"Last year a Mission team was sent to Stavropol. They didn't know about the history of the city at that time. But when the team had difficulty getting Bibles shipped from Moscow, someone mentioned that they knew a warehouse existed outside the town, where these Bibles had been stored since Stalin's time.

"The team prayed together and one member had the courage to go to the warehouse and ask the officials if the Bibles could be removed and distributed again to the people in Stavropol. The answer was, 'Yes'. "The next day the Commissioner returned with a truck and several Russians to help load the Bibles.

One helper was a young man - a skeptical, hostile, agnostic university student, who came only for the day's wages. As they loaded the Bibles one man noticed that the student had disappeared. finally they found him in a corner of the warehouse weeping.

"He had slipped away hoping to quietly take a Bible for himself. What he found pierced him deeply. The inside page of the Bible he picked up had the handwritten signature of his own grandmother. It was her personal Bible. Out of the thousands of Bibles still left in that warehouse, he stole the one that belonged to his grandmother - a woman persecuted for her faith all her life.

"No wonder he wept. God was real. His grandmother had prayed for him and her city. His discovery of the Bible was only a glimpse into the spiritual part of his person. And now this young student is in the process of transformation by the Bible that his grandmother found so vital. God is making Himself known to people around the world."

Church must not reject homosexuals, ministry warns The church reaches out to alcoholics, drug addicts, and unwed mothers, but often rejects or ignores homosexuals, the director of a national Christian ministry says.

..."We offer alcoholics and drug addicts hope. Why can’t we offer gays hope? The hope is Jesus," Anthony Falzarano of Parents & Friends of Ex-Gays (see link #1 below), told Religion Today.

...The ministry, also known as P-FOX, is a network of 16 local chapters of the families and friends of homosexuals. They seek to love homosexuals while still disagreeing with their lifestyle. P-FOX, based in Washington, D.C., is a branch of Exodus International (see link #2 below), a Seattle-based umbrella group
for 110 ex-gay groups nationwide.

..."We are led by God to offer advice to parents and loved ones caught up in a web of homosexual deceit," Falzarano said.   P-FOX was founded in 1996, partly to counteract the efforts of
Parents,  Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, which has about 400 chapters and promotes acceptance of homosexuality.

...Homosexuals are "inundating all of us with their propaganda,"  said Falzarano, who said he was involved in the homosexual lifestyle, including male prostitution, for nine years before becoming a Christian. He says he slept with more than 400 people in the 1970s and considers it a miracle that he tests
negative for the virus that causes AIDS. Falzarano traces his homosexuality to the emotional coldness of his father and molestation by an older brother.

...Some Christians "have been duped" into thinking homosexuals can’t change, Falzarano said. "Don’t buy the lie." He and his wife have been married for 15 years, have two children,  and live in Northern Virginia. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:9 that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit the
Kingdom of God, but "verse 11 says such were you but you were cleansed by the blood of Jesus," he said.

...Sin in the church is another reason for failure to help homosexuals, Falzarano said. "Why are they not helping?   Some are paralyzed because of the rampant secret sins found in the church," including addiction to pornography and sex outside marriage, he said. "The church is full of heterosexual
sin, but not much is being done about it. For some reason pastors are not talking about addiction to pornography and masturbation as sin."

..."We must educate the church with the truth that gays can recover," Falzarano said. "We must let them know that no one is born gay." Saying that people are born homosexual is "a lie, propaganda," Falzarano said. "Gays have convinced the church that nothing can be done, and many churches believe that gays
are condemned to hell anyway, that they are getting what they deserve."

...Only 10 churches support P-FOX, which has an annual budget of $175,000, Falzarano said. "We are desperate for support.   We could do so much more. We could keep many more kids out of the
homosexual lifestyle if we had the budget. More kids out of that lifestyle means more kids coming to Christ.

..."We can help people come out of a gay lifestyle. We can help them be free. We can help parents to not give in to their child's manipulations to accept their sin. We help parents stand strong." P-FOX can be contacted at 1017 12th St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20005. The phone number is (202) 371-2900.

...God is using "the lepers of the society, ex-gays," Falzarano said. "He is cleaning them up and sending them into the church as prophets to warn and hold the church accountable for its hypocrisy."
