John 3:16-18

16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." 17 "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." 18 "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Introduction
Why did Jesus come to this earth?    Would you believe the Bible tells us several reason why Jesus came to this earth?   How many can you think of right now?

Please follow as I share 7 reason why Jesus came to this earth.

1.    JESUS CAME TO DO THE WILL OF GOD.

John 4:34 "Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to
finish his work."

John 5:30 b "... because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath
sent me."

John 6:37-40 37 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh
to me I will in no wise cast out." 38 "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine
own will, but the will of him that sent me." 39 "And this is the Father's will which hath
sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up
again at the last day." 40 "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which
seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at
the last day."

1.    Jesus became a human.

2.    He as God the Son existed in the eternal beginning.

3.    In coming to earth He had to take within Himself the will of a human being.

4.    However His human will was submissive to the Father

5.    The word will is used ___ times in John's gospel alone.

ILLUSTRATION:
Jesus prayer in the garden If it be thy will let this cup pass Never the less not my will but thine be done

APPLICATION:

1. We should likewise submit to the "will of God"

2.    It should show in our celebration of Christmas and all of our life.

2.    JESUS CAME TO FULFILL THE SCRIPTURES.

Mat 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come
to destroy, but to fulfil."

John 17:12 "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou
gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture
might be fulfilled."

John 19:24 "They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it,
whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment
among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did."

John 19:28 "After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the
scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst."

EXPLANATION.

1. A key word in Matthew's Gospel is the word "fulfilled" 19 times

2. John on 3 occasions "that the scriptures might be fulfilled

ILLUSTRATION

1.    GOD's Word is precise.

2.     O.T. promise fulfilled in the N.T.

3.    Luke the physician reports more about the birth of Christ God chose a doctor to
       write about it in detail

APPLICATION:

God's Word is true it is precise in every detail needed for our
faith. WE HAVE CHRISTMAS BECAUSE JESUS FULFILLED SCRIPTURES

3.    JESUS CAME TO SEEK THE LOST

Mark 2:17b "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Luke 5:32 "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Matt 18:11 "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."

Luke 19:10 "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."

EXPLANATION.

1. There are 50 personal interviews with Jesus in the Scriptures

2. The focus is to win the lost.

3.    He called them and said "I will make you fishers of men"

4.    Great commission "make disciples"

5.    In the Book of ACTS they continued "in the apostles doctrine"

ILLUSTRATION:

North Carolina "women in ministry report"--Away from Inerrancy

Evangelism and Southern religion. To great social issues

APPLICATION:

1.    Jesus never said I am come to feed the poor or give homes to the homeless.

2.    He said "TELL THEM THE GOSPEL IS PREACHED TO THE POOR."
        a.    I certainly believe in social ministries but with an evangelistic motive.

3.    Christianity is as much caught as it is taught

4.    IT IS CONTAGIOUS ESPECIALLY AT CHRISTMAS

4.    JESUS CAME TO BRING A SWORD

Mat 10:34 "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."

Mat 10:35 "For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter
against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."

Luke 12:51 "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather
division:"

EXPLANATION.

1.    Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
However He says I didn't come to send peace or give peace or earth.

2.    Angels announced Peace on earth to men of good will.
His peace is given to those who have Him in the heart

3.    Christian is more than a Name it is a Nature.

4.    Christian is more than a label it is life.

ILLUSTRATION:
Lady in foreign land contract out for her death simply because she became a Christian.

Jewish boy became a Christian --Devout father had a funeral for him.

I know a father who does not want son to become a Christian.

APPLICATION:

What about you. Your child serving as a missionary.

Inner city ministry?

At this time of year would you give your son? GOD did!

5.    JESUS CAME TO CLARIFY JUDGMENT

John 9:39 "And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not
might see; and that they which see might be made blind."

John 12:47 "And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not
to judge the world, but to save the world."

John 3:17-19     "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the
world through him might be saved."  18 "He that believeth on him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of
the only begotten Son of God."    19 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come
into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

1 John 12:48 "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him:
the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."

EXPLANATION.

Two Greek words KRISIS = the process of judgment. 9:39

KRIMA = the result of judgment 12:47

Jesus didn't come for the purpose of judging but saving.

As a result of His His word and life are the standard of it.

ILLUSTRATION:
Suppose your sin account was as follows: 1-a week = 50 a year X 10 years = 500

Then you stand before a judge and say I am a good man I only have 500 offenses

APPLICATION:

Still people ask how can God send someone to Hell.

He or she was a good person.

Love of God vs the Righteousness OF God.

Jesus said "I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE".

CHRISTMAS DAY IS A JUDGMENT DAY--IS JESUS EXALTED

6.    JESUS CAME TO GIVE LIFE ABUNDANT.

John 10:10 "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come
that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

EXPLANATION.

1. Jesus came to give life. A different quality of life.   He had eternal life to give away.

ILLUSTRATION:

Happiest Christians are those who give it away.

Evangelist Moody Adams --- His speech teacher told him --- You have an offensive voice and
style get out of preaching. In a Mission Crusade 3,000 people saved. God told him to
preach. I am glad he did.   Jesus gave him abundant life.

APPLICATION:

This Christmas do you have any life to give away? Eternal Life?

7.    JESUS CAME TO BRING LIGHT.

John 12:46 "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not
abide in darkness."

1 John 3:19 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved
darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

John 3:20-21 "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest
his deeds should be reproved." 21 "But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his
deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

John 8:12 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that
followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

EXPLANATION.

1.    Light eliminates darkness.

2.     Christ is light --- the Light of the world

3.    Christians are the light of the world --- reflect the Son

4.    One man said "you Christians are just a bunch of moonshine".
Then a Christian said "thanks!" The moon reflects the sun and we reflect the SON".

ILLUSTRATION:

Fish in a deep cave -- eye sockets but no eyes --too dark to see

The love of darkness caused them to loose their eyesight

APPLICATION:

Christmas a celebration of lights--Light to give away

CONCLUSION:

Our house is open, Lord, to Thee:
Come in, and share our Christmas tree!
We've made each nook and corner bright,
Burnished with yellow candle-light.

But light that never burns away
Is only Thine, Lord Jesus. Stay,
Shine on us know, our Christmas cheer--
Fill with thy flame our whole New Year!
