EXOD. 10:7-11 7 And Pharaoh's servants said
to him, "How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that
they may serve the \Lord\ their God. Do you not realize that Egypt
is destroyed?" 8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh,
and he said to them, "Go, serve the \Lord\ your God! Who are the ones that
are going?" 9 And Moses said, "We shall go with our young and
our old; with
our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go,
for we must hold a feast to the \Lord.\" 10 Then he said to
them, "Thus may the \Lord\ be with you, if ever I let you and your little
ones go! Take heed, for evil is in your
mind. 11 "Not so! Go now, the men {among you,} and
serve the \Lord,\ for that is what you desire." So they were driven
out from Pharaoh's presence.
EXOD. 10:24-27 24 Then Pharaoh called to Moses,
and said, "Go, serve the
\Lord\; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your
little
ones may go with you." 25 But Moses said, "You must also
let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice {them}
to the \Lord\ our God.
26 "Therefore, our livestock, too, will go with us; not a hoof will
be left behind, for we shall take some of them to serve the \Lord\
our God. And until we arrive there, we ourselves do not know with what
we shall serve the \Lord.\" 27 But the \Lord\ hardened
Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let them go.
INTRODUCTION:
Today the world presents many possible compromises for the Christian.
Some think these compromises are new but they represent some of Satan's
oldest tricks. If a Christian accepts these compromises they will
compromise their nation and their family.
A. God had instructed
Moses how and where to worship.
1. These
represented a compromise.
B. Dangers of worship in the midst of pagan
people.
1. They will ridicule you
and make fun of your worship.
2. It will be difficult
to have laws that protect your worship.
3. People will hesitate
to admit their needs in the midst of pagans.
ILLUSTRATION:
D.L. Moody was told the audience had a habit of getting up through
the message and leaving. He said I'll stop that. Announced he was preaching
to sinners and saints. After awhile he said that's the end of my remarks
to the sinners so you may get up and leave anytime you want. No one
left until he finished the sermon.
APPLICATION:
Go worship. But do not worship where God tells you to worship?
EXOD. 8:28 And Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the \Lord\ your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Make supplication for me."
A. This seems like an
all right suggestion. Go but do not go very far away.
Do not let your worship penetrate your life style.
1. Worship without depth
makes a difference in your Nation and Family.
a. Barna Says
1) Proclaim one thing and live another.
2) Bible is meaningful but their are no absolutes.
3) 47% see Christianity as relevant; 23% see the church relevant.
4) 66% say it doesn't matter what god you pray too.
5) composite religion is okay. Make one from several.
B. THE DANGER OF WORSHIP
THAT DOES NOT PENITRATE DEEP
INTO THE HEART.
1.
IT IS TOO WORLDLY. DID NOT GO FAR ENOUGH AWAY
FROM THE WORLD.
ILLUSTRATION:
Benjamin Franklin as a boy traded a toy for another but then heard
a boy blowing a whistle. He traded his new toy and six pennies for that
whistle. He then found out he paid much too much for the whistle.
He coined a phrase for the rest of his life "they paid too much for their
whistle".
APPLICATION:
Where are your Children Today?
Where will they be Ten years from now if they follow in your foot steps?
Some Say "I just can not make my teen ager do this or that."
You never really taught them to obey. You never broke their will to be
submissive to your will.
A. Today less time spent
by parents actually rearing their children.
1. Only 3% of mothers at home.
2. Average Father spends 15 minutes of meaningful time with children.
3. Average Mother spends 50 minutes of meaningful time with children.
4. 40% of babies born are to an unwed mother. Mountain View perhaps as
high as 25%.
a. A Mother said If I could get somebody to go with me I would go to
the male stripper show. Daughter pregnant in a wedding dress
ILLUSTRATION:
Little boy not wanting a bath. Mother said I must get you clean.
Boy said can't you just dust me off?
APPLICATION:
Some seem to just want a dusting off rather than a cleansing from sin.
B. Moses refused to leave
without the Possesions God had given.
1. They
were and are necessary for proper worship.
ILLUSTRATION:
Do you remember this story in the life of David?
2 Sam 24:22-25 22 And Araunah said to David, "Let my
lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen
for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen
for the wood. 23 "Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king."
And Araunah said to the king, "May the LORD your God accept you."
24 However, the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy {it}
from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD
my God which cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and
the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 And David built there
an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
Thus the LORD was moved by entreaty for the land, and the plague was held
back from Israel. (NAS)
APPLICATION:
David knew the pocket book should be involved in worship.
