GOD"S TIMING IN THE LIFE OF MOSES
Exod. 14:10-18

10 And as Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD.
11 Then they said to Moses, "Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt?
12 "Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness."
13 But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.
14 "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent."
15 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.
16 "And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.
17 "And as for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.
18 "Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen." (NAS)

Introduction

Have you noticed how much of life depends on the proper timing. Being at the right place at the right time; cna make a significant difference.

In the text we find: A Time to Stand Still, A Time to Go Forward, A Time to Build, and A Time to Glorify God. This is God's Timing in theb Life of Moses.

1. God's Timing . . A Time to Stand Still. v 10-14

For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." 13 But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent."

A. The Sights . . While Waiting. v 10

1. A General got the report they were surrounded by the enemy. He responded "Don't let a one of them get away.
a. I think that's the kind of faith Moses expressed.

B. The Sovereign . . While Waiting. v 13-14

1. What is God doing while the Egyptians aproach?
a. He is sitting on His throne.

Illustration
Scientists report that noise has a definite effect on our working efficiency. Noise increases the pulse, quickens the blood pressure, and upsets the normal rhythm of the heart. Spiritual noise has just as bad an effect on spiritual life. The man who is occupied with the things that keep him from hearing the voice of God in his heart is spiritually frustrated. It is impossible for those who are spiritually noisy to have true peace of mind, peace of heart, and peace of soul! This is why God has said, "Be still, and know that I am God;"

Application

Have you come to the end of self? Good! Stand still and see what God will do. In the stillness of the darkest night; call out to God and watch Him do what only he can do.

2. God's Timing . . A Time to Go Forward. v 15-18

A. Go Forward . . On Dry Ground. v 15-16

15 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. 16 "And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.

1. Dry Ground, something like Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, Dan 3:26-27

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the furnace of blazing fire; he responded and said, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, come out, you servants of the Most High God, and come here!" Then Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego came out of the midst of the fire.
27 And the satraps, the prefects, the governors and the king's high officials gathered around {and} saw in regard to these men that the fire had no effect on the bodies of these men nor was the hair of their head singed, nor were their trousers damaged, nor had the smell of fire {even} come upon them. (NAS)

B. Forward . . On Dedicated Ground. v 17-18

17 "And as for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 "Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen."

1. Dedicated for God's purposes but not Pharaoh's.

Illustration.
A Black minister shared that he thought the first Egyptians died from inhaling all the dust created by the Children of Israel stiring up the dry ground.

Application

This ground was dedicated to the purpose of God. My friend the ground where you sit or stand is dedicated to the purposes of God.

We need to undertstand Gods timing and move forward with Him. The ground on which we stand or sit may very well be holy ground to God. Today He is telling us to go forward in reaching our community for Christ.

3. God's Timing . . A Time to Build. Exo. 25:1-9

A. Contribution . . for Building. v 1-7

1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
2
"Tell the sons of Israel to raise a contribution for Me; from every man whose heart moves him you shall raise My contribution.
3
"And this is the contribution which you are to raise from them: gold, silver and bronze,
4
blue, purple and scarlet {material,} fine linen, goat {hair,}
5
rams' skins dyed red, porpoise skins, acacia wood,
6 oil for lighting, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones and setting stones, for the ephod and for the breastpiece.

1. Notice the . . Commanded. v 1-2
a. Raised from willing givers.

2. Notice the . . Collection. v 3-7
a. Received as God had directed.

B. Construction . . of the Building. v 8

8 "And let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them. 9 "According to all that I am going to show you, {as} the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furniture, just so you shall construct {it.} ,(NAS)

1. Plans for the Tabernacle

2.` Plans for the furniture..

Application

God's timing includes a plan for building. We have been collecting money from willing givers for 4 years. I believe it is time to seek God's face for the details about His timeimg for this proposed building.

4. God's Timing . . A Time to Glorify God. Num 20:9-12

9 So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him; 10 and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, "Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"

11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. 12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

A. Glorify God in our . . Belief. v 12 a

1. Belief . . Who He Is.

1 Cor 10:1-4 1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

2. Belief . . What He Can Do.

B. Glorify God in our . . Behavior. v 12 b

1. Actions will follow Beliefs.
a. Interesting question; did Moses ever ask forgiveness?

Illustration
A child asked a man to pick a flower for her. That was simple enough. But when she said, "Now put it back," the man experienced a baffling helplessness he never knew before. "How can you explain that it cannot be done?" he asked. "How can one make clear to young people that there are some things which when once broken, once mutilated, can never be replaced or mended?"

Application

Sin has consequences. We need to realize we can be forgive but may carry some scars because of the past sin.

I had a long distance conversation with a minister friend. There pastor preaches about abortion. It makes that lady feel quilty. I think that is awful. Don't you agree? No I don't. Well what would you tell that lady. I would tell her to accept God's forgiveness. Use her testimony to help others and go one serving the Lord.

We need to do all we can to glorify God in our life style. If we fail do like Moses and move on in service.

5. God's Timing . . A Time to Die. Deut 32:49-52

49 "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, and look at the land of
50 "Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, 51 because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel. 52 "For you shall see the land at a distance, but you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving the sons of Israel." (NAS)

A. Realizing Grace . . Brought You this Far.

1. Grace . . Covered his sin.

B. Realizing Grace . . Carries you further.

1. Grace . . Carried him to his fathers and to his Father.

Luke 16:22
22 "Now it came about that the poor man died and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

Conclusion

Song

I looked over Jordan and what did I see coming for to carry me home? A band of angels coming for me , Coming for to carry me home. Sing low sweet chariot coming for to carry me home
