Three Provisions God Gives The Christian

1 John 5:10-15

C:\JIMMc2007\iJOHN5-10TAB.SER.wpd February 25, 2007

KJV 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. KJV

3.   God Provides His . . Will For The Christian.

1.   God Provides His . . Witness Within The Christian. 5:10-12

      10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

      A.  The . . Assurance Of The Witness. 5:10a, 11, 12a

            10 He that believeth (one who believes) on the Son of God hath the witness (Testimony) in himself: . . . 11 And this is the record, (Testimony) that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. . . . 12 He (whosoever) that hath the Son hath life;

            1.   This is a whosoever Gospel.

            2.   This witness is present tense.

            3.   Life is in believing the Son, and He gives it to us.

            4.   It Is “In” The Believer. “In Himself”

            5.   The GREEK Speaks of a Permanent Possession.

            6.   Perseverance In Believing.

            7.   The E. L. Is a GIFT. John 10:28

            8.   Note these verses. Rom 8:16-17 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit , that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. KJV

                  1)  Joint heirs have the same rights.

                  2)  I have the same right to go to heaven as Jesus.

                  3)  Because of Him not me.

      B.  The . . Absence Of The Witness. 5:10b, 12b

            1.   Absence Effect #1      Call God A Liar.

10b “. . . he that believeth not God hath made him a liar;

because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

            2.   The . . Absence Effect #2  No Eternal Life, but death.

12 b “. . . and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

                  1)  Note “Son Of God” in verse 12. It is emphasized for the one who does not believe. Also the GREEK states it this way: “hath not the Son of God life hath not.”

                  2)  Absence because of Unbelief.

                  3)  Same treatment to all Unbelievers.

                  4)  Tell Them They are Calling God A Liar.

                  5)  They Do Not Believe The Record.

                  6)  Virgin Birth, Baptism, Miracles, Teachings, Etc..

                  7)  Acts 26:26, “...not done in a corner.”

                  8)  John 3:18  Condemned already”

Are you ready for a surprise? You blink twenty five times every minute. Each blink takes you about one-fifth of a second. Therefore, if you take a ten-hour automobile trip, averaging forty miles per hour, you will drive twenty miles with your eyes CLOSED.

I know a fact far more surprising than that. Some people go through LIFE with their eyes closed. They look but don't really "see" . .they observe the surface but omit the underneath. . .they focus on images but not issues. . .vision is present but perception is absent. If life were a painting, they would see colors but no genius in the strokes of the brush.

Bob Morey, an apologist in Southern California.

Bob was asked once by an aggressive lady atheist to prove the Bible's truthfulness. Bob responded,

"You prove the Bible to me every time you open your mouth." Shocked, she asked how this could be true.

He asked her, "Do you fear God?" She answered, "No."

   "Well," he said, "you just proved that Romans 3:18 is true. 'There is no fear of God before their eyes.'"

He proceeded, "Is the gospel foolishness to you?" "Yes!"

He explained, "Well, you just proved 1 Corinthians 1:18. 'The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.'"

He continued,

"Do you want your own way instead of living according to God's way?"

She retorted,     "I don't want God's way-I'll do as I please!"

He responded,

"Well, you just proved Isaiah 53:6. 'Each of us has turned to his own way.' Every time you open your mouth you confirm the Bible.

Jim Cymbala's daughter had been running from God for a long time. Chrissy had rebelled against her family, had left home, and was living as far from God as she could. But one night, this teenager awoke with the distinct feeling that someone was praying for her.

And someone was. The entire congregation of the church her father pastored was talking to God about her. During their weekly prayer meeting, a member suggested they should all pray for Chrissy.

Two days later, she came home. The first question she had for her startled father was this: "Who was praying for me?" She begged forgiveness and recommitted her life to Christ.

       Commit to pray and intercede— The battle's strong and great's the need;

       And this one truth can't be ignored: Our only help comes from the Lord. —
