Because Jesus Christ is the only Savior
Acts 4:12

12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."    (NAS)

Walk with me back to the latter part of the first century, and the first part of the 2nd century. As we would walk the highways of Palestine, we could see cross after cross lining the highway. On these crosses would be the bodies of dead or dying Christians.

We could walk into the Coliseum in Rome and see the bodies of Christians torn into little pieces by the teeth of lions. We could hear the cry "Reject Jesus or die," given by the Roman Judge.

Why did these people die? Why were they willing to face a lion or be nailed to a cross? It was because they believed with all their heart that Jesus was the only Savior. They believed that Jesus was God's Son sent to redeem them from their sins.

In our text today, Simon Peter proclaims Jesus Christ Lord and only Savior. Simon was later crucified on a cross head down because he would not reject Jesus. What should we today do in response to the truth that "Jesus Christ is the only Savior."

Our text suggests three actions we should take because we believe Jesus Christ is the only Savior.

We should proclaim this truth.

We should warn against false saviors.

We should urgently persuade others.

I.    Because Jesus is the only Savior; we should proclaim this truth. . .

12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."  (NAS)

The text states "Neither is there salvation in any other" Simon Peter is here proclaiming that JESUS is the only Savior. He is telling it to some very religious people and he is telling it in such a way that they know that he is convinced of that truth.

We should likewise proclaim the truth that Jesus is the only Savior. We should confront every person with that truth. Jesus is the only Savior. And our lives should testify that what our lips say is really what we believe. We should say it in love but also with conviction.

A Professor at a major university became so engulfed in his philosophy of loose living that he lost his wife and family through a divorce.

He began to drink even more heavily and lost his teaching position. In a matter of months he found himself living in a one-room apartment upstairs over a tavern. Each night when the tavern closed he would buy a bottle and go upstairs to his room. In his room he would sit and look out the window and argue with a neon light down the street. The light was on a rescue mission, and it flashed the message "Jesus saves."

When the light would go on the ex-professor would talk back to the message "Jesus saves" by asking in a skeptical voice, "does He?" This would go on all night until in a drunken stupor he would fall asleep. He repeated this activity night after night for months.

One night as he was playing this game with the neon light the electricity went off all over the block, and there was no more sign flashing "Jesus saves". In panic the man lifted up the window and shouted "turn it back on", "turn it back on", "Jesus saves is my only hope." "Don't you know that?" "Don't you know that?"

You and I need to be like that neon light that proclaims Jesus saves, Jesus saves. We, like that light, need to depend upon the power source. We also should not allow anything to keep us from proclaiming that truth; you see the sign didn't care what other said, it just kept saying "Jesus saves, Jesus saves."

T. S. NOTICE that the text suggests other actions that you and I should take.

II.    Because Jesus is the only Savior; we warn against false saviors.

12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."   (NAS)

The text points out, "there is none other name given among men" and that phrase is more than a proclamation it is a warning. A warning against the acceptance of any other name for savior. No other person, place, or thing is to be accepted as savior.

Now today if you go on a university campus you will run into the argument that some believe in Jesus and some believe in Buddha, how can you say they are wrong and you are right.

The answer is right here in the Word of God. This is the authority. And Christians are not to take a back seat to any of the world's saviors, because they have God's only Savior.

Now it has been my experience that everyone who goes around saying that Buddha or Confucius were just as good as Jesus doesn't really know much about what any of those teachers taught. They don't know that Buddha taught chastity and abstaining from intoxicants, and not to even look at dancing because you must abstain from all desires if you are ever to reach "Nirvana" or "salvation."

They don't know that Confucius taught ancestor worship, or they certainly wouldn't distrust anyone over 30. No, my friend, there really is no comparison with Christianity and these world religions. But what has happened is that many Christians have failed to warn these people that they are going to hell unless they repent of their sin, and trust Jesus Christ the only Savior.

You have questioned whether there is just one way of salvation. You have stood and wondered rather than to warn others about their false saviors. You need to get back to warning others.

Several years ago, they reportedly found the bones of Buddha and it caused a great revival in the Buddhist religion. (Someone asked how they could tell they were the bones of Buddha, and the answer jokingly came that he wrote his names on his bones before he died.)

Do you know what would happen to Christianity if they could find the bones of Jesus? Rather than a revival for Christianity it would be the ruin of Christianity. For our Savior did not remain in the grave. He is alive!    Death could not hold its prey.

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today.

I know that He is living, whatever men may say;

I see His hand of mercy I hear His voice of cheer and just the time I need Him; He's always near.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today

He walks with me, and talks with me along life's narrow way.

He lives, He lives salvation to impart,  you ask me how I know He lives.?

Does Jesus live in your heart? If He doesn't, you need to trust Him. You need to turn your life over to Him.

Rom. 3:10 Rom. 3:23

Rom. 6:23 John 1:12

John 3:16 John 14:6

Rev. 3:20

I warn you today, don't delay. . .There is no other Savior only Jesus can redeem you from your sin.

T. S. The text suggests a third action because Jesus is the only Savior.

III.    Because Jesus is the only Savior, we should persuade others

12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."  (NAS)

Look at the text once more it says, "Whereby we must be saved," it is an absolute must that you trust Jesus and because that is so we are urgent in out persuasion. We believe this so strongly that we never let a service go by without inviting people to come and trust Jesus.

One Greek scholar has said that you need to say this word "must" ten (10) times in context in order to get the real impact of the fact.

Let me read the verse with this kind of emphasis: "neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name given among men whereby you must must must must must must must must must must be saved.

Let me cite some other verses to emphasize the urgent and necessary element of salvation in Jesus alone. Although there are several such verses, I will only use the Gospel according to John. Please follow as I read:

John 3:5 John 3:14 John 3:30 John 20:9

You see my friend salvation is a must if you desire life now and eternal life in heaven.

This salvation that I speak of is obtained only by trusting Jesus Christ. You must confess to Him your sins and request that His pardon for sin be applied to your life.

Recently the President's power to pardon has been in the news, it is a first for a president to pardon a former president. But there is in history a very interesting point of law concerning a pardon.

When Andrew Jackson was president, he granted a pardon to a man for the crime that he was convicted of committing. The man was shown the pardon, but he wouldn't believe they were telling the truth about it, and he refused to accept the president's pardon. He could have walked out of that jail "scott-free" but he just refused to believe he had been pardoned. A judge ruled that a pardon is not good until it is received.

My friend, some of you here today are just like that man in jail. Jesus has paid the debt of your sin and offers to you a pardon but you refuse to believe. You are on your way to a devil's hell just because you refuse the Pardon.

We think the message is an urgent one, and we try to persuade you. We have knowledge about this pardon, and we want to share it with you.

Will you yield your life to Jesus, will you trust Him to pardon and forgive your sin debt today. We are going to sing an invitation Hymn, and during the singing of the hymn, we invite you to make a positive decision for Jesus.

If you are tired of the load of your sin

Let Jesus come into your heart

If you desire a new life to begin

Let Jesus come into your heart.

Just now your doubtings give or'e

Just now reject Him no more

Just now throw open your door

Let Jesus come into your heart.
